People with diabetes are twice as likely to have a heart attack or a stroke as people without diabetes. It is a little confusing as to why this is. Large studies have found that heart disease is NOT linked to diabetes management. The risk seems to be the same for everyone.
We do know is that it is very important to manage high blood pressure and high cholesterol to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. And if you smoke, are overweight, have poor eating habits, are physical inactivity and drink large amounts of alcohol you should know these are linked to heart disease.
